"It's Not for Everyone" - Sayulita, Mexico
Surf. Tacos, Yoga, Hidden Beaches, Alluvthethings, etc.
STAY
We chose to stay in a beautiful AirBnB jungle (tree)house retreat. This beautiful home was perfectly situated for easy access to the beach(s) and a quick walk into the heart of Sayulita. The owner can also help with transportation to/from the airport (including a stop at a grocery store along the way).
NOTE: Petit Hotel Hafa also looked like the cutest boutique boho hotel. Rooms start at $50/nt
The town itself is just lovely.
Our first recommendation is to rent golf carts in order to explore everything that this beautiful city has to offer (including a few hidden beaches..).
Our second recommendation, just see what happens. This place is an absolute gem, and there are so many great spots to grab tacos, smoothies, shop, surf, explore, tequila, alluvthethings, etc.
EAT + DRINK
ChocoBanana Bakery, Coffee, Breakfast. (14 Delfin). If you’re looking for a more traditional, sit-down meal, go here. Be sure to order the Banana bread, OR their choco dipped banana.
El Break Cafe. Located on the beach at Malecon 1 (between Calle Delfin and Marlin). Go for breakfast bites (order the breakfast burrito, banana pancakes, a fruit bowl, or one of their bagel sammies), and/or the lunch/snack situation (which they can also serve you down on the beach, which is a recommended idea mid afternoon w/ a cervesa). Their quesadilla, guac, nachos, etc. never got old.. actually I could go for alluvthat right now. So good! Great food y great service!
Sayulita Cafe: Located at Av. Revolucion 37. Go for the fresh fish ceviche + chile rellenos.
Naty's Cocina: Go for brunch + great tacos (fast + cheap)
Mary's. Located at Av. Revolucion 70. Go for the tacos. Voted a TOP10 taco stop by us. Like for real.
The Real Fish Taco: Located at Calle Delfin 10. Go for a marg and mahi mahi tacos. Claimed by many to have the best fish tacos.
Monchis Sayulita Restaurant & Bar. Located at 12 Calle Marlin. Go for dinner + drinks and order the fajitas. (then go to the bar upstairs to dance the night away).
Miro Vino: Relaxing garden restaurant + white lights set on the side of Sayulita's main plaza.
La Rustica: Located at Av. Revolucion 40-C. Go for the pizza, pasta, vibes, outdoor patio hangs. Order alluvethings family style.
Su Casa. Located at Manual N. Navarette 7. Go for live music, dancing and adult beverages.
SHOP
We recommend simply exploring alluv Sayulita for their shopping and cute hidden boutique gems where you'll find new swimmers, jewelry, art, etc. Some of our favs include...
Evoke the Spirit: There are two locations, one in the main plaza, second on a side street. We recommend checking out both. This is the dreamiest of shops. Expect to want to re-deco your entire home after stepping foot in this store. It's just the cutest.
Debbie De La Cueva Jewelry: Located at Calle Delfines. Go for alluv the cutest bracelets, rings, handcrafted jewelry, etc.
D0 + PLAY
Surf(!!) There are a number of spots you can rent boards from if you didn't bring your own. NOTE: Try to get out there early before the water gets overpopulated.
Sayulita Beach is by far the most crowded area. Expect to see surfers, stand up paddle boarders, sun bathers, locals offering up their goodies (if you see a woman with a red container, she is offering tamales, and I promise you these are a must), massages on the beach and more.
Los Muertos Beach: This beach is located on the S. end of Sayulita by the towns cemetery. This is a fairly quite area, and great for sun bathing. The water itself is pretty mellow.
Playa Carrecitos: Finding this beach is ideal with a golf cart considering it is pretty out of the way and you will most definitely need to ask the locals how to find this place (we mostly used the guess and check system to find it). This beach was by far our most favorite for the absolute beauty, and complete solitude. Recommended: Sunset body surfing. Amazing.

North Sayulita Beach: depending on where you are staying, this may be another golf cart kinda adventure. N. Sayulita beach is also where you will find the turtle release. The beaches are beautiful, and not quite as populated as the main Sayulita Beach.
NOTE: Look into the Turtle release, which happens at sunset from late October - January.
Explore the Marietas Islands. This is an absolute must. No question. NOTE: You need to book this months in advance in order to confirm your reservation, however it is TOTALLY worth every penny. Expect an energetic/fun crew, seriously impressive boat, clear blue waters + incredible beautiful beaches, breakfast/snacks/lunch/open bar and an experience that will last a lifetime. Full day cruise, approx $90 pp.
NOTED: Haramara Yoga Retreat.
